Cavani: Do not judge Suarez on his mistakes
Jun 10, 2013 4:13 PM GMT
Napoli striker Edinson Cavani says it is "not fair" to judge compatriot and Liverpool star Luis Suarez for his on-field mistakes.
Suarez was banned for seven games in 2011 after biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal in the shoulder, and did not play again for Ajax following the incident, as he sealed a switch to Liverpool for more than 22 million pounds. And the controversial 26-year-old could leave Anfield in similar circumstances, after he was slapped with a 10-match suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League fixture in April.
Suarez has not played for Liverpool since, due to the ban, and he has been widely linked with a move away from England, where he dislikes the intense media speculation surrounding him.
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all been linked with moves for Suarez, who has been unfairly treated by the press according to Cavani.
"Those things happen in life when you are on the pitch…you are really excited and you have to deal with some situations you are not used to," Cavani told OMNISPORT.
"It's not fair to judge a person for one thing on the pitch when there is a match going on and you are extra excited and sometimes you make a mistake.
"Most important (is) he has recognised he has made a mistake."
When quizzed on Suarez's future, Cavani said he was unsure where the striker would end up, but he does believe his countryman is well suited to the Premier League.
"I think he is the only person who knows where he will play. Even I don't know what my future will be," said Cavani, who is a transfer target of Chelsea and Manchester City.
"I think that English football fits him very well because (it) is the kind of play that he likes. But at the end it is about a personal decision regarding everyone's vision about football and which one you like the most."
