Championship: Millwall 1 Leeds 0
18 Nov, 2012 5:40 PM GMT
Millwall climbed to ninth place in the Championship on Sunday courtesy of a 1-0 win over a 10-man Leeds United at The Den.
After going to the half-time break with scores locked at 0-0, the match turned on its head two minutes into the second half when Leeds striker Luke Varney was given his marching orders by referee Mark Halsey for an elbow on Adam Smith.
The home side tried to make their numerical advantage count, but struggled to carve out any clear chances against a well-organised Leeds defence.
Millwall finally made the breakthrough in the 85th minute when Australian Shane Lowry played in an inviting cross, and Chris Wood stooped low to drive a header past Paddy Kenny in the Leeds goal.
The win saw Millwall extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches and moved them above Nottingham Forest, Watford and Blackpool into ninth position, while Leeds are in 18th spot.
