Bio

Claudio Marchisio was born in Turin, Italy on 19 January 1986. A versatile player, he is predominantly a box-to-box central midfielder, but is also able to play out wide, or in a holding midfield role. Known for his tenacity, hard tackling, dribbling, work rate and tendency to shoot from long range, his playing style has drawn comparisons with the legendary Italian midfielder, Marco Tardelli.

A product of the Juventus youth academy, Marchisio first joined the club in 1993 and slowly worked his way through the ranks. During his early days, he played as an attacking midfielder and modelled his game on his idol, Alessandro Del Piero, but moved into a more conventional midfield role during his teen years. In 2006, after Juventus had been relegated due to the Calciopoli scandal, he took the step up to the senior squad, making his debut at the beginning of the 2006-07 season.

During his first season as a senior player, Marchisio impressed with his mature performances and helped the side to achieve instant promotion back to Serie A. However, for the duration of the 2007-08 season, he was sent on loan to Empoli in order to gain more experience. Over the course of the campaign, he made his first Serie A appearance, his first European appearance and became a regular member of the starting eleven, but the team were unable to avoid relegation. At the end of the year, Marchisio was recalled to the Juventus squad.

Upon returning to Turin, he established himself in the Juventus side, earning rave reviews for his performance in a match against AC Milan in 2008 and scoring his first Serie A goal later that season. In the years since, he has contributed to the team's Serie A title wins in 2011–12 and 2012–13 and has occasionally captained the side. He received individual recognition for his performances in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns, being named in the Serie A Team of the Year on both occasions.

Marchisio represented Italy at under-21 level, before receiving his first cap for the senior side in 2009. He was included in the squad for the 2010 World Cup, but was deployed in an unfamiliar attacking midfield role for much of the tournament. At Euro 2012, he played in all of Italy's matches, as they eventually finished as the tournament's runners up.
