Plentiful Plzen: The Czech's attacking firepower could be lethal against Lyon

When you look at this years Europa League and the teams left in it, you wouldn't generally think of Viktoria Plzen of the Czech Republic as a threat to any of the big guns such as Juventus, Tottenham, Porto etc. But Plzen's excellent mixture of young talent and experienced knowledge in the team could make them dark horses for reaching the last 8 of the Competition. They face Olympique Lyonnais in the last 16.

Currently lying in 2nd spot in the Czech League at the moment behind a resurgent Sparta Prague, Plzen have been consistent threats in the league for about 4 years and the large number of Czech players in the squad is a huge benefit for the National Side (8 of their starting 11 vs Shakhtar in the last round were from Czech Republic) and it hasn't been a problem finding the net this season either.....

They have managed to find the net 42 times in their 19 games in the Czech League but in this seasons Champions League Qualifying they scored a massive 20 goals in 6 games, 7 goals more than Dinamo Zagreb and 9 more than Steaua Bucuresti who also entered the competition at the same stage.

It is also safe to say that their upcoming striker Stanislav Tecl has improved as the season has gone and he scored against Manchester City in the Champions League Group Stage as well as grabbing a crucial goal in the First leg in the last round against Ukrainian Champions Shakhtar.

Despite selling one of their excellent young talents to Freiburg (Vladimir Darida), the Czech's still possess a threat with Michal Duris and Tomas Wagner competing with Tecl upfront and the midfield contains the veteran Pavel Horvath alongside the vibrant Jan Kovarik, Tomas Horava and Daniel Kolar.

It's safe to say that Lyon will go into the match as supreme favourites, and their Ligue 1 form recently has shown large signs of encouragement after a disastrous 2013. They also have a good strike partnership upfront with Bafetimbi Gomis leading the line alongside the extremely talented Alexandre Lacazette. But if Plzen can play to their strengths and grab a crucial away goal in France today, they may just turn a few heads and cause some of the big boys to look over their shoulder.
