Argentine club, Independiente, took a step toward the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals after beating Liverpool 2-1 on Tuesday.Fabian Vargas opened the scoring for the home side six minutes into the match at Estadio Libertadores de America.
Paulo Rosales doubled the advantage four minutes after the break, and the Argentine hosts looked set to carry a healthy lead into the second leg.
But Carlos Nunez struck on 85 minutes to give Uruguayan club Liverpool hope of overturning the deficit in Montevideo next month.
Elsewhere, second-half goals from Juan Gonzalo Lorca and Mauro Vila saw Deportivo Quito of Ecuador down Argentine side Tigre 2-0 at home.
