Bio

Daniel Alves da Silva, commonly known as Dani Alves, was born in Juazeiro, Bahia on 6 May 1983. A Brazilian international right back, who is primarily known for the attacking threat he poses to opponents, he is widely considered to be one of the best full backs of his generation.

Alves made his professional debut for local side Esporte Clube Bahia in 2001 and quickly impressed with his performances. He attracted the attention of Sevilla and moved to the La Liga club in 2002, initially on loan. The deal became permanent in 2003 and Alves became a key member of the team that enjoyed significant success in the years that followed, helping the side to consecutive UEFA Cup wins in 2005–06 and 2006–07, as well as a Copa del Rey win in 2006–07. After being linked with several top European clubs, including Liverpool and Chelsea, he eventually moved to FC Barcelona for a €32.5 million transfer fee, making him one of the most expensive defenders in history.

Since joining the Catalan giants, Alves' attacking play has become a strong feature of the team's style and Barcelona have experienced huge levels of success. He was a part of the club's UEFA Champions League successes in 2008–09 and 2010–11, although he missed the final in 2009 due to a suspension. In addition, Alves has contributed towards multiple La Liga titles and Copa del Rey wins.

At international level, Alves enjoyed success at youth level, winning the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship with Brazil and he has played for the senior national team since 2006. Despite competition for a starting place from Maicon, he has gone on to earn well over 50 caps for his country and was involved in their 2007 Copa América win, as well as their successes at the 2009 and 2013 editions of the FIFA Confederations Cup.
