Genoa have fired coach Luigi De Canio following their 4-2 home loss against Roma at the weekend.
Genoa took a 2-0 lead by the 15-minute mark of the Serie A clash but the men from the Italian capital were then able to turn the match in their favour.
Club officials have already named former Juventus coach Luigi Delneri as the new replacement.
"At this time it was right to change. I immediately hired Delneri because I was afraid he was going to go somewhere else. Reinforcements will arrive in January," Genoa president Enrico Preziosi told ANSA.
Genoa currently sit in equal ninth on the Serie A table.
