“There are two sides to every story.”
That was Clint Dempsey’s response to the speculation from the football community after it was released that the American had told Fulham he would never wear The Whites shirt again.
Speaking ahead of their first fixture of the new season, Fulham boss Martin Jol told the gathered press that Dempsey could be playing no part in his side’s game against Norwich City on Saturday.
But later on that afternoon it transpired that the midfielder told his club of five-years that he’d never play for them again.
Dempsey has already made it clear that he wants out of Fulham this summer but what hasn’t been clear is why he is refusing to play for the side that brought him to England from the New England Revolution at the age of 24.
After no word from the player all evening, Dempsey finally took to twitter to respond to his critics and fans saying: “There are two sides to every story,” before adding, “The truth will come out.”
Whatever the truth is will have to wait for a while, as will Dempsey’s departure as Jol told the press that Fulham would happily wait until the right price was offered for the American rather then giving him away to end the “embarrassing” situation.
