About Deportivo Capiatá

Club Deportivo Capiatá was founded in September 2008, making it one of the youngest teams currently competing in the Paraguayan league system. In the space of just a few years, the club have made rapid progress through the divisions, culminating with their promotion to the Primera División ahead of the 2013 season.

Despite being founded in 2008, the team's history dates back further, to the 2007-08 season. During the season, a team called Capiateña Selection competed in the Campeonato Nacional de Interligas, a competition which brings players from different clubs together in order to represent their particular region of the country. Capiateña Selection went on to win the competition and Deportivo Capiatá was established as a result of this success.

After playing in the third tier, the club made its first appearance in the División Intermedia in 2010. However, their transition was difficult and they struggled to compete with many of the other teams in the league. Eventually, Deportivo Capiatá finished the campaign in 12th place, avoiding relegation by a single point. Their second season, in 2011, brought about a marked improvement and the team ended the year in 3rd place, this time missing out on promotion by a single point. Finally, at the conclusion of the 2012 season, the club gained promotion to the top flight for the first time, after finishing the season as División Intermedia runners up.

Some of the more notable players to have been signed by the club include names like Tobias Vargas, Fabio Escobar and Julio Santa Cruz.

The team's home stadium is the Estadio Deportivo Capiatá, which first opened in 2009. The venue was built with the specific intention of hosting the team's home games, but is one of the smaller stadiums in the Primera División. It is currently able to hold a maximum of 5,000 supporters.
