Di Matteo hesitates over Terry

Roberto Di Matteo is unsure if he should start John Terry against group leaders Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League tie on Wednesday.

The Chelsea  centre-back served the last game of his four-game domestic ban for racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Swansea to surrender their lead at the top of the table, but Di Matteo is still on the fence about his involvement.

"He (Terry) is an important player for us and we will welcome him back," Di Matteo told reporters.

"We will have to see how the next three days go and then we will make a decision."

When asked whether influential midfielder Juan Mata and defender David Luiz would be back in time to face the Ukrainian side, Di Matteo was equally as cautious in his approach.

He added: "It is going to be a question of waiting for the next couple of days for them to recover and we hope they will be available to play."

Chelsea are second in Group E on four points from their opening three games as they seek to defend their European title this term.

Shakhtar lead the group by three points, with Italian champions Juventus in third spot.
