In the Dutch Eredivisie, Waalwijk went into the game undefeated but that run came to an end as Ajax thanks to second-half goals from Lasse Schone and Jody Lukoki cruised to victory.
Ajax showed their intent immediately when Derk Boerrigter fired a shot over from the edge of the area in the second minute.
Waalwijk were lucky to go in level at half-time, however they could have taken the lead after the break when Robert Braber rose well he but could not angle his header on target.
The game needed a moment of magic to break the deadlock and that came from a neat one-two between Ajax's Christian Eriksen and Schone, with the latter striking beautifully into the roof of the net on 52 minutes.
Former Liverpool striker Ryan Babel, who had come on at half-time for his first appearance since returning to Ajax from Hoffenheim, chipped in a delicate cross for Lukoki to head home with 20 minutes left to play.
Ajax remains second on the Eredivisie table after Twente trounced Willem II 6-2 at Koning Willem II Stadion.
A brace from Robbert Schilder and goals from Felipe Gutierrez, Luc Castaignos, Willem Janssen and Philipp Haastrup, who sent the ball into his own net, helped maintain Twente's perfect start to the season.
Feyenoord bounced back from their loss to second-placed Vitesse with a 2-0 win against lowly PEC Zwolle on Saturday.
Joost Broerse scored an unfortunate own goal just a minute into the second half before Lex Immers converted a 73rd-minute penalty to put the result beyond doubt for the hosts, who sit five points off the lead in fourth position.
Elsewhere on Saturday, three goals in eight minutes from Rydell Poepon, Jens Toornstra and Tjarron Chery inspired ADO Den Haag to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Heerenveen, while VVV Venlo came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to NEC.
