Futbola Centrs Jūrmala was founded back in 2008. The team have experienced a quick rise to prominence within Latvian football, after climbing to the country's top division, the Virslīga. Their main local rivals are FK Spartaks Jūrmala, with whom they contest the Jūrmala derby. Previously, a short-lived rivalry had also existed with FK Jūrmala-VV, although they have since moved to Riga and been rebranded as FK Daugava.
FC Jūrmala began competitive play in Latvia's second tier, known as the Latvian First League. After finishing in 13th place in their debut season, results improved the following year and the club ended 2009 in 4th place in the league table. The 2010 campaign then brought about the team's greatest ever success, as Jūrmala finished in 2nd place. Their status as league runners up ensured them automatic promotion up to the Virslīga for the first time.
The club's first top flight season was considered a major success, with Jūrmala comfortably avoiding relegation and finishing the year in 5th place. They also notably finished ahead of their rivals from the time, FK Jūrmala-VV. The 2012 season brought about a slight decline in terms of league performances, with the team finishing one spot lower, in 6th place. However, they were able to reach the quarter finals of the Latvian Football Cup, marking their best ever performance in that competition. To date, Jūrmala have been unable to collect any major honours and their achievements at domestic level have not yet gained them qualification for a major UEFA competition either.
Vīts Rimkus, Oļegs Malašenoks and Deniss Kačanovs are amongst the most notable players to have played for the side. All three players have also represented Latvia at international level.
FC Jūrmala's home matches are held at Slokas Stadium, which is shared with their local rivals, Spartaks Jūrmala. The venue is currently able to hold up to 5,000 supporters.
