Fiorentina rule out Jovetic move
Jan 09, 2014 5:46 PM GMT
Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Valle has ruled out a move for Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic in the January transfer window.
The Florence-based club are still reeling after the knee injury suffered by star striker Giuseppe Rossi.
Rossi sprained ligaments in his right knee in Sunday's 1-0 win over Livorno – the same knee he has previously had two operations on to reconstruct cruciate ligaments.
Jovetic moved to City from Fiorentina in the close-season for a fee believed to be in the region of £22million, but he has struggled for first-team football behind the likes of Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko.
The 24-year-old has battled injuries, but has made just three Premier League appearances this season, leading to links with his former club.
"If there is not the quality there (in January), then it is useless to act," Della Valle said.
"Let us hope that Rossi's injury does not limit our chances this season.
"Jovetic and (former Fiorentina striker Adrian) Mutu? We remain friendly with them, but they are difficult. 'JoJo' is impossible, the regret is there.
"The anger is still so much for the injury to Rossi."
The 26-year-old Rossi has scored 15 goals in 20 appearances for Fiorentina this season, who sit fourth in the Serie A table.
