Former Australia midfielder Vince Grella has signed a one-year deal at Melbourne Heart, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
The experienced defensive midfielder, 33, had been without a clubs since ending an injury-marred spell at English Premier League club Blackburn Rovers at the end of the 2011-12 season.
Melbourne-born Grella will arrive back in his home town on Saturday, but will not link up with his new team-mates until Monday, when Heart return from their away trip to Perth Glory.
He had trained with the A-League club when back in Melbourne in July to keep fit, before returning to Europe in a bid to continue his career there.
