Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera has apologised for getting sent off in his team's 3-2 loss away to Valencia in La Liga on Saturday.
The 23-year-old was shown a red card midway through the second half for violent conduct, as Tino Costa and Nelson Valdez struck with two minutes to go to reverse a 2-1 deficit into a home victory for Valencia.
On Twitter, Herrera said sorry to his 230,000 followers, citing a 'huge mistake' in the incident which led to his dismissal.
"I made a huge mistake, unforgivable for myself, I can only apologise and learn from mistakes. Thanks for the encouragement," Herrera tweeted.
He echoed his sentiments to the media after the game at Mestalla.
"I've been a pardillo (naive or easily fooled) and I was wrong," Herrera told reporters.
