Injury Woes for Arsenal
Aug 18, 2013 6:00 PM GMT
On Saturday, Arsenal slumped to a disappointing loss to recent relegation worriers Aston Villa, but the problems lie further than that. The Gunners have been plagued with injures, and add Bacary Sagna and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to that list.
Sagna, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Thomas Vermaelen, Nacho Monreal, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky are all reported injured, and will most likely be ruled out of their Champions League play-off against Fenerbahce on Wednesday.
Arsene Wenger received sour chants from a few unsavoury Arsenal supporters, suggesting that he needs to spend more money, his only signing to date is 20-year-old Yaya Sanago. The Gunners have been linked with top name signings, however Wenger hasn't spent a penny yet. The departure of Gervinho, and other players who have been released, leaves Arsenal with £80m to spend.
Rumours suggested that Luiz Gustavo, Gonzalo Higuain and Brazilian playmaker Bernard were already Arsenal players, however they all left for different clubs.
Now it is more need, not want, as Arsenal do not possess enough defenders for Wednesday. Wenger has to spend, and fast. But will he?
