International friendlies wrap: Finland crush Luxembourg
By Football News
Finland continued on from their shock 1-1 draw with Spain by beating Luxembourg 3-0 in a friendly on Tuesday.
Although Mixu Paatelainen's team are yet to win in UEFA World Cup qualifying, they managed to secure a historic draw in Gijon on Friday, and they built on that performance by putting Luxembourg to the sword.
Alexander Ring opened the scoring just before half-time at the Stade Josy Barthel, and a penalty from Mikael Forssell five minutes after the interval had the Finns cruising.
Luxembourg suffered a body blow when defender Chris Philipps was sent off in the 53rd minute, and Joona Toivio completed the win in the dying stages.
Also on Tuesday, Sweden and Slovakia played out a goalless draw in Zilina.
Both sides are well and truly in the hunt for a playoff berth in UEFA World Cup qualifying and they used the break in their competitive schedule to try different formations.
Slovakia used 17 players in the match, while Sweden coach Erik Hamren used five of his substitutes.
Meanwhile, Peru trounced Trinidad & Tobago 3-0 thanks to goals from Yordy Reyna, Paolo Hurtado and Christopher Gonzales.
