About İstanbul BB

İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediye Spor Kulübü was established in June 1990 under the name ISKI SK. Owned by the Municipality of Istanbul, today the club is usually referred to as İstanbul BB. The club's relative youth means that its fanbase is still incredibly small for a top flight side. As a result, their supporters are usually outnumbered, even for the team's home matches, which has led to observers remarking that every match is like an away game for the team.

Upon the team's foundation, they competed in the Turkish Regional Amateur Football League and gained promotion to the third tier of Turkish football at the conclusion of the 1990-91 season. It was at this stage that the team adopted its current name. They were promoted to the second tier at the end of the 1992-93 season, relegated back to the third tier the following year, then promoted once again. This time, they established themselves in the division and remained there up until 2007.

At the conclusion of the 2006-07 season, İstanbul BB finished as runners up in the Türk Telekom Lig A and gained promotion to the Süper Lig for the first time. Once again, the team took little time to establish itself in a new league. They finished the 2007-08 season in 12th place, then in 2009-10, they achieved a remarkable 6th place finish, one place away from European qualification. This league performance was matched in the 2011-12 season. To date, the team has won no major honours.

Some of the more important and notable players to have represented the club so far include Cameroon international striker, Pierre Webó, as well as the current club captain, Efe İnanç.

Despite their small fanbase, İstanbul BB play home matches at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium. The ground has been awarded a 5-star rating by UEFA, was the venue for the 2005 Champions League final and has a maximum capacity of 76,092.
