J.League wrap: Omiya assume top spot, Yokohama held
29 Apr, 2013 11:43 AM GMT
Jurgen Klopp has denied reports he disclosed information about Jose Mourinho's managerial future to a German newspaper.
Last season's second-division champions Ventforet Kofu stunned Yokohama F. Marinos with a 95th-minute equaliser in their 1-1 draw, allowing Omiya to move into top spot with their fifth consecutive victory.
Slovenian striker Milivoje Novakovic scored twice for Omiya as they destroyed Kashiwa, who remain well of the pace in 11th on the ladder.
Novakovic started Friday's rout when he got on the end of a left-wing cross in the 19th minute to tap the ball home and Omiya led 2-0 at the break thanks to Shohei Takahashi's strike on the stroke of half-time.
Omiya extended their lead to three goals in the 55th minute after Zlatan Ljubijankic was brought down in the penalty area and Novakovic scored from the spot, while the visitors completed their emphatic win eight minutes later thanks to a goal from Cho Young-Cheol.
Having never finished higher than 12th in the J.League, the weekend is a famous one for Omiya as they moved to the top of Japanese football on 20 points.
Yokohama (19 points) had looked on track to retain the lead in Japan's top tier after leading through Shunsuke Nakamura's fourth-minute goal but were pegged back in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time when Naoki Aoyama scored for Kofu.
Urawa Red Diamonds could have joined Yokohama on 19 points but slumped to a 1-0 loss to Shimizu S-Pulse, while reigning champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima had to fight back from a goal down to draw 1-1 away to Nagoya Grampus and Kashima Antlers triumphed 3-2 in a goal-fest against Albirex Niigata.
In other results, Cerezo Osaka and Oita Trinita played out a scoreless draw, Jubilo Iwata thumped Shonan Bellmare 4-0, FC Tokyo overcame Kawasaki Frontale 2-0 and Vegalta Sendai drew 1-1 with Sagan Tosu.
