Laudrup: Michu is the best buy
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has hailed Michu as the Premier League's best buy for man years following an impressive debut season.
The Spaniard joined the Swans from Rayo Vallecano for just £2.2 million and has quickly repaid that with an impressive 21 goals in the league this season.
While the 27-year-old missed out on a nomination for the PFA Player of the Year award, he can take comfort in the fact that he helped his side clinch the League Cup and also put them on their way to a top-10 finish in the league. Laudrup, while always confident in Michu's ability, did concede that he was surprised by how quickly he adapted to life in the English top flight.
"Michu has been outstanding, more so than anybody expected, and he’s won a trophy too," Laudrup said.
"Everybody now recognises that maybe he has been the best buy for many, many years. There is so much quality with him."
However, the Dane was keen to ensure that his side didn't become too reliant on Michu's goals, adding that the club would be in the market for attacking players this summer.
"We cannot put all the pressure on his shoulders to score goals," he added.
"That’s something we will have to deal with because we can not expect Michu to score over 20 goals next year."If he scores 13 to 15 I would be happy. That would be great, but we need to find more goals for next season.
Laudrup denied, however, that the Welsh club were lining up an ambitious move for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo.
The Andalusian club are in dire financial straits, with their 18-goal top scorer being linked with a move to balance the books at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
"I don’t think that’s possible because there are other teams that want him [Negredo] and we are talking double figures in terms of a transfer fee," he said.
"It is out of our league, we cannot pay 10, 12 or 14 million pounds for a player. I don’t know how many players we will sign but there will be strikers."
