Leonardo delighted with PSG performance
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo labelled his side's 2-0 Coupe de la Ligue win over Marseille one of their best results this season.
Wednesday's clash pitted Ligue 1's first and third-placed sides against each other, and after drawing 2-2 in a league meeting earlier this season, expectations were high heading into the match.
But goals from Thiago Silva and Jeremy Menez wrapped up the win for the hosts, and Leonardo hopes the Ligue 1 leaders can continue their good form.
"I think it was a really, really good game," Leonardo said.
"We played very, very well. And you can see it with the fans' reaction and the atmosphere in the locker room. Everyone is pleased of what we did today.
"I think it's our best game with the ones against Dynamo Kiev and Lille."
PSG were aided by the decision to send off Marseille defender Rod Fanni after 27 minutes, and Thiago Silva opened the scoring from the resulting penalty.
Leonardo believed referee Antony Gautier made the right call.
"I believe it was a penalty," he said. "I don't know if the action was in or out of the box, I did not see it on TV, but there is a foul.
"It's a bit harsh.
"You got a penalty and a red card, you got a double sentence. But it's the rules and the referee was right."
Fanni, however, believed his infringement should not have resulted in a penalty.
"First of all, my foul was outside the box, so the penalty was not justified," Fanni said.
"At the start of the season, they showed us videos saying that even if you are the last defender, if the foul is done outside the box, it's yellow card, and here I got a red card so I'm asking myself a lot of questions about the referee's decisions tonight.
"I'm really, really disappointed."
