Cruz Azul made it three Liga MX wins in succession with a 2-0 victory over Toluca on Sunday, while Atlante accounted for Puebla.
Guillermo Vazquez's side disposed of Queretaro and Tijuana in recent weeks and it was no different on Sunday as they condemned Toluca to their second consecutive defeat.
Christian Gimenez scored the opening goal on 19 minutes before defender Luis Perea doubled the visitors' advantage nine minutes later.
Cruz Azul remain nine points off the pace and in sixth position after 15 games, while Toluca occupy 12th.
In Sunday's other result, lowly Atlante defeated Puebla 2-0 in the battle of Mexico's strugglers.
A brace from Chilean striker Esteban Paredes was the difference between the two sides as Atlante ended their eight-game winless streak.
