Liga Sagres wrap: Porto pile pressure on Benfica
21 Apr, 2013 11:16 AM GMT
Porto have kept the pressure on Liga Sagres leaders Benfica with a 3-0 victory away to relegation-threatened Moreirense on Saturday.
Jackson Martinez scored either side of half-time while Fernando also got on the scoresheet for second-placed Porto as they moved to 66 points, just one behind Benfica - who are set to play local rivals Sporting Lisbon on Sunday.
Porto hit the front in the 34th minute after a flowing move through the midfield that ended with Danilo finding Martinez, who got clear of his marker and fired a left-foot shot into the back of the net.
Just seven minutes into the second half, the visitors from Porto made it 2-0 when Brazilian midfielder Fernando slotted his first goal of the season.
After James Rodriguez's corner was cleared by the Moreirense defence, the Colombian midfielder regained possession and crossed to Martinez at the near post, who flicked the ball on to Fernando and while the Brazilian's first shot was saved, he made no mistake with his second.
Martinez wrapped up the victory with his 25th goal of the Liga Sagres season, running onto Lucho Gonzalez's chipped pass to dink the ball over Ricardo Ribeiro and into Moreirense's net.
Meanwhile, Pacos de Ferreira came from behind to knock off Rio Ave 2-1 to regain third position on the table, three points ahead of fourth-placed Sporting Braga.
After a goalless first half, Rio Ave took the lead in the 57th minute through Tarantini.
But Pacos de Ferreira scored twice in four minutes to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions.
Paolo Hurtado struck with 15 minutes remaining before Andrea Leao scored the winner in the 79th minute.
