Ligue 1: Brest 2 Lorient 0
Nov 03, 2012 12:52 AM GMT
Brest ended a run of two straight defeats with a 2-0 victory over struggling Lorient in Ligue 1 on Friday.
Landry Chauvin's men had lost to high-flyers Lyon and Toulouse in recent weeks but goals from Eden Ben Basat and Charlison Benschop secured a valuable home win and extended Lorient's winless league run to six games.
Brest hit the front after 14 minutes when Israeli striker Ben Basat sent the ball past Fabien Audard for his fourth goal of the season.
The hosts went into the break with a one-goal lead but Lorient emerged from the interval full of confidence.
Jeremie Aliadiere, who has attracted interest from English Premier League clubs, came close to restoring parity but failed to find the back of the net, while Gregory Bourillon and Gilles Sunu had chances of their own.
And Brest took full advantage of Lorient's inability in front of goal and lacklustre defending, which has now seen them concede 12 goals in three games, sealing victory with a 93rd-minute strike from Benschop.
Brest are now six points clear of the relegation zone and just two points adrift of Lorient in 13th position.
