Ligue 1 Preview: Evian v Paris Saint-Germain
Apr 26, 2013 8:08 PM GMT
Paris Saint-Germain could all but guarantee their first Ligue 1 title since 1994 with a win over Evian this weekend.
Carlo Ancelotti's side will take a 12-point lead at the summit if they win and second-placed Marseille lose to Lorient, with their vastly superior goal difference effectively wrapping up the title.
But the Parisian outfit face a team against whom they suffered defeat just over a week ago.
Evian ran out winners courtesy of a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw when the sides met in the Coupe de France in Annecy.
In Ligue 1, however, PSG have won their last four games, keeping clean sheets in each of those victories while scoring seven goals. They have been duly aided in that run by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who leads the league goalscoring charts having notched 27 times in 33 games. And that form has led Thiago Silva to urge his team-mate this week to snub approaches from across Europe at the end of the season.
"I hope Zlatan will stay at PSG. He can help the team and the club grow. I really want him to stay put," he told Le 10 Sport.
"I have not yet had the opportunity to talk to him about whether he has already made a decision on his future.
"He's a normal guy who always wants to win. He gets angry when things don't go well. Sometimes this is a good thing and sometimes it isn't. I see him as a positive guy, though, who gives strength to the team."
Evian require a win for entirely different reasons than their visitors, with Pascal Dupraz's side just one point above the relegation zone in 16th place.
But they have earned victories in three of their last six league fixtures having recovered from a winless run of 10 games.
The reverse fixture between these sides finished 4-0 to PSG.
