Martin Kelly of Liverpool could miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the closing stages of Liverpool's match at home to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. A club statement said Kelly, the England international, will be ruled out for a "significant period of time". Kelly told his Twitter followers: "It's not the worst injury I've had and I'll be fighting for my place next year."
The news will come as a bitter blow to Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, whose team have yet to win a Premier League match this season. Liverpool lost 2-1 to United and the match also saw an injury to Daniel Agger, the Liverpool defender, who could be out for a month.
