Mackay: Performances show that we deserve to be here

Malky Mackay believes that Cardiff City have shown that they deserve to be in the Premier League following Saturday's 2-1 victory at Fulham.

The Welsh club climbed to 12th as Jordan Mutch's last-gasp goal secured three points after Steven Caulker's goal had been cancelled out by substitute Bryan Ruiz.

And manager Mackay insisted that his side's displays have underlined their top-flight credentials.

"Through our performances we've shown we thoroughly deserve to be in this position," he said.

"I've got a team who believe they deserve to be playing at this level. I'm delighted with the way we played today, from the first minute to the last.

"We've had 24 attempts at goal and away from home that's a fantastic stat. We've got a real belief after six games that we're at home at this level."

Mackay also had special praise for his match-winner Mutch, who came off the bench to score with a wonderful curling effort.

"Jordan's got that in his locker off both feet," he said.

"That's his weaker foot, that's the talent that he's got and that's something were striving to get out of him more and more.

"At this level invariably players that get chances 25 yards out can do what Ruiz and Jordan did today and that's something that's different in the step up (from the Championship).

"I'm delighted for him, he's someone we've got a lot of faith in.

"In the second half we showed great belief and kept striving for the win, put on three subs to try and win the game and one of them ended up scoring the winner.

"I'm delighted that we are creating chances. When the second one doesn't come something like Ruiz's goal can happen but I think we got our just rewards in the end."
