After Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways in the league run in their expense, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pisto Mosimane says his side lacked firepower up front which is the reason why they went down 1-0 to the Buccaneers on Tuesday night.
The Brazilians went to the match against off-form Pirates side with four straight wins in all competitions, but the home side on the night could not make it five wins in a row and the loss has left them with a daunting task to catch log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who are on 43 points and nine points clear off Mamelodi Sundowns who have a game in hand.
“We lacked firepower tonight and a mistake at the back caused us the results tonight, said Mosimane after the match.” I am not saying we didn’t attack but we should have done better and got something out of this match.
“We were little bit blunt up front tonight and Rodney Ramagalela was fighting alone, but I am not surprised why we didn’t have that spark up front as we are missing our star attacking midfielder Khama Billiat, and our strikers Katlego Mashego and Cuthbert Malajila are out injured.
“We tried to bring on Lebohang Mokoena in the start of the second-half but I didn’t expect much from him because he hasn’t played for a while now. But we will come alright even though I believe we deserved a draw at least tonight,” concluded the former SuperSport United coach.
Mamelodi Sundowns next match is against other title chasers Bidvest Wits away from home on March 1. The Clever Boys beat SuperSport United 3-2 on the same night to move three point adrift of their Saturday’s opponents with a game in hand.
