Norwich City will complete the signing of defender Javier Garrido from Lazio on a two-year contract on July 1.

The former Spain Under-21 international joined the Carrow Road outfit on loan from the Serie A club in August, but has now agreed to a permanent move after impressing with Chris Hughton's side, who are assured of Premier League status for the next season after thrashing West Brom 4-0 on Sunday.

Garrido has become somewhat of a mainstay in the Norwich defence this term, making 34 appearances, and the left-back revealed that a supportive environment at the club was key to his decision to sign on a permanent basis.

He told the club's official website: "I'm so happy to have signed full-time for Norwich City. I am very comfortable with everything here - with the players, the technical staff and of course the fans. I am just very happy that we have managed to remain in the Premier League where we belong.

"Now I want to do everything I can to help Norwich continue to be successful in the Premier League. For me personally I am delighted to have secured my future playing in English football with Norwich City."

Garrido's sentiments were echoed by former Newcastle and Birmingham boss Hughton, who was quick to stress his delight at making the 28-year-old his second signing ahead of next season after Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

"I'm delighted to have secured the services of Javi on a permanent basis," Hughton said. "The fact that we've signed him is a testament to the contribution he has made to the team since joining us last summer."
