Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Júnior, usually shortened to Oscar, was born in Americana, São Paulo on 9 September 1991. An attacking midfield playmaker, who is capable of playing centrally or on the wing, he is noted for his dribbling, technique and vision, which enables him to carve out chances for teammates. His playing style has often been compared to that of his compatriot, Kaká.

During his youth, Oscar initially played for União Barbarense, but was spotted by São Paulo FC's scouts and joined up with their youth academy in 2004, at the age of 13.
