Premier League preview: West Brom v Swansea
Mar 08, 2013 8:00 AM GMT
Swansea will look to keep their sterling first season under Michael Laudrup going strong when they visit West Brom in Premier League action.
The Dane's Welsh outfit have been a revelation so far in season 2012/13, with Spanish sensation Michu leading the way.
The 26-year-old has contributed 15 goals from his advanced midfield position, and he got on the scoresheet to help Laudrup's team lift the League Cup last month - the first major trophy in their 100-year history.
Heading into Saturday's match, Swansea are in eighth place on 40 points, one spot ahead of Steve Clarke's West Brom outfit, who are also on 40 points - meaning a hard-fought and even encounter should be on the cards at The Hawthorns.
The last time they played, Swansea stopped a four-game winning run for West Brom in the league with a 3-1 victory at Liberty Stadium in November, powered by two goals from Wayne Routledge and another from that man Michu.
West Brom made a flying start to the campaign, but their progress has slowed in recent weeks, winning only two of their past nine matches in the league - although one of those two was a 2-0 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield last month.
For Swansea, defender Chico Flores is still doubtful with an ankle injury, while his team-mate Neil Taylor has been ruled out for the rest of the season after breaking his ankle in September.
West Brom also have their concerns on the fitness front, with midfielders George Thorne and Zoltan Gera both out for the rest of the season with serious knee injuries.
In brighter news for Clarke, Chris Brunt is nearing a return from an ankle injury.
