Primeira Liga Wrap: Sporting smash Academica, Pacos poor again
25 Aug, 2013 4:39 PM GMT
Sporting Lisbon made it two wins out of two in the new Primeira Liga season as they ran out 4-0 winners away at Academica on Saturday.
Andre Carillo opened the scoring for Sporting midway through the first half, prodding home after Wilson Eduardo flashed a volleyed ball across the face of goal.
Marcos Rojo doubled the advantage three minutes before the break, swivelling inside the penalty area and tucking into the bottom-right corner of Ricardo's goal.
Adrien scored a third nine minutes into the second half from the penalty spot, slotting home after Marcelo Goiano had been dismissed for a second bookable offence as he bundled Jefferson to the floor.
And it was another penalty that put the cherry on the cake for Sporting 56 minutes in, Fredy Montero beating Ricardo after Bruno China handled Carrillo's whipped cross.
Elsewhere, Olhanense claimed their first points of the new campaign with a 1-0 home success over last season's surprise package Pacos de Ferreira.
Agon Mehmeti scored the only goal after 16 minutes and that proved enough for Olhanense, who had Pele sent off for a second bookable offence in first-half stoppage time, but Pacos' struggles continue - they remain winless this term, having qualified for the UEFA Champions League last season.
