Pulis open to Championship return

Tony Pulis has outlined his desire to return to management and insists that he is prepared to work outside of the Premier League.

Pulis' long association with Stoke City came to an end in May and he has since been linked with the managerial vacancy at Sunderland.

Yet with Gus Poyet reportedly on the verge of being appointed at the Stadium of Light, Pulis has revealed that he would be more than happy to take the reins at a second-tier club, having helped transform Stoke from a Championship side into a stable top-flight outfit.

Pressed on Poyet's apparently imminent switch to Sunderland, Pulis told talkSPORT: "I think Sunderland's a great job but I'm not so sure that would have suited me."

The 55-year-old Welshman added: "I've had 12 non-stop years in the game. I've enjoyed the break.

"I want to get back in but it’s got to be the right club. It doesn't have to be a Premier League club. If it's the right Championship club I'd do that.

"It's been nice to build things. Everybody talks about what happened on the pitch (at Stoke) and rightly so, but nobody talks about what we did off the pitch. It's a completely different football club to the one I had when I started."

Pulis left Stoke by mutual consent in May, bringing to an end his seven-year second spell at the club.
