Rəvan Futbol Klubu, often known as Ravan Baku, was created back in 2007. Based in the capital city of Baku, the team are nicknamed The Lions and have risen to prominence within Azerbaijan in a short space of time. They have also developed a reputation for signing a number of foreign players, including multiple players from countries like Argentina and Sweden.
Upon entering the league system, Rəvan competed in the second tier. In the 2009-10 season, they put in a steady performance and eventually finished in 6th place. The following year, their results improved and the club were able to achieve a 2nd place finish. As a result, the team gained promotion to the Azerbaijan Premier League.
Although they have been unable to win any of the major honours available to them, since reaching the top flight, the club have been able to establish themselves in the division. Their first season, in 2011-12, saw them win 10 of their matches and finish in 8th place in the final league table. The 2012-13 season brought about a similar level of performance, as Rəvan won 12 matches and again finished in 8th place. However, in addition to their consistent league results, the 2012-13 season also saw the team achieve their best run in the Azerbaijan Cup so far, as they reached the competition's quarter final stage.
Some of the club's notable former players include Miloš Zečević, Tagim Novruzov and Nemanja Vidaković. The side's current star, Juan Manuel Varea, was prolific during the 2012-13 campaign, scoring a total of 15 goals in all competitions.
Rəvan's home matches are held at Bayil Stadium, which opened in 2012; in time for its use in that year's FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Owned and operated by the AFFA, the venue is currently able to seat up to 5,000 fans.
