Rain halts CAF Champions League semi-final
By Football News
The first CAF Champions League semi-final between Al Ahly and Cotonsport was suspended early into the second half after heavy rain in Garoua.
The visitors had dominated large parts of the game, however torrential downpours led to the referee suspending the game due to unplayable conditions.
Despite the rain relenting a sodden pitch made it impossible for the match to restart despite both sides wanting to get underway again.
The Egyptian side had chances to break the deadlock during the first half but found Cotonsport goalkeeper Jean Effale Konguep in good form.
Mohamed Aboutrika missed the visitors best chances with a wayward bicycle kick and a header well saved by Konguep.
Cotonsport felt they should have had a penalty early in the game but their claims were waved away by the referee, but otherwise they failed to test Sherif Ekramy in the Al Ahly goal.
Under the competition regulations, the game could be replayed, however a decision has yet to be announced.
