About Ried

SV Josko Ried, often known more simply as Ried, was first established in May 1912 under the name Sportvereinigung Ried. Throughout the years, Ried have primarily existed as a lower league club, but have risen to greater heights in recent times. Over the course of the past few decades, the team have started to contest the major honours on offer in Austria, and have represented the country in European competitions.

For the majority of their history, Ried competed in the regional divisions of Austrian football. In 1991, the team were finally able to make the step up to the national league system and in 1995, they were able to gain promotion to the top tier, the Austrian Bundesliga, for the first time.

Since reaching the top flight, Ried have gone on to establish themselves as a major force within Austrian football. In 1998, the team picked up its first major honour, the Austrian Cup, after defeating Sturm Graz 3-1 in the final of the competition. At the end of the 2002-03 season, the team suffered relegation back to the second tier, but returned to the top tier in 2005. The 2005-06 season saw them finish in 4th place, while in 2006-07, they achieved their best ever league performance, ending the campaign as league runners up. In 2011, Ried were able to win the Austrian Cup for the second time. Since the 1990s, the club have competed in a number of European competitions, including the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

Sanel Kuljić is perhaps the club's most notable former player. The Austrian international finished the 2005-06 season as Bundesliga top scorer and has since had his squad number retired by Ried as a mark of respect.

The club's home games are played at the Keine Sorgen Arena, which was previously known as Fill Metallbau Stadion. The venue opened in 2003 and is able to hold a total of 7,680 fans.
