Sammer not celebrating yet
For the first time in the history of Europe's elite tournament three Bundesliga teams qualified for the knockout stage as group winners, and Sammer believes the public is putting too much stock into this success.
"I am delighted for German soccer, but what is our claim? That we survived the first round with three German teams? Now it really begins," he told Spox.
"I am surprised we celebrate that similar to things like winning the title. We expected it to happen so all is in order up to this point, but we shall be humble and consider it as normal."
Sammer was disappointed by Jerome Boateng's dismissal in Bayern's 4-1 win against BATE on Wednesday, which could see the player miss up to three matches in Europe.
"It was harsh. Each morning I meet with UEFA and the referees and always hear about respect," he said.
"On the other hand I have to say that Jerome does not have to go in the way he did. Nevertheless, this is no way a red card."
