Scotland are trying to convince Cardiff City skipper Steven Caulker to leave England and pledge his future to Gordon Strachan's side.

Caulker, who has previously played and scored for England in a friendly, is eligible to join Scotland through his grandmother.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan is keen to take advantage of this and is set to try and poach the 21 year-old defender, despite Caulker insisting that he is committed to England.

The Cardiff City captain has been overlooked for England's upcoming friendlies versus Chile and Germany.

But despite not earning a call up for England since a friendly against Sweden in November last year, Caulker remains optimistic about his chances with the country of his birth.

"I would have loved to get the call but I can rest and look to build on the performances for Cardiff," Caulker said.

"You've always got to continue to believe in yourself. If you play well then you never know, the call might come."

Scotland assistant coach Mark McGhee was unable to shed any light on whether or not Caulker has yet been approached but confirmed the defender is on Strachan's radar.

"He's someone who does (meet the criteria to switch national allegiences) as I understand it", McGhee said.

"We know who the boy is, we knew him before when he was at Tottenham. I don't know any more than that."
