Serie A Player Ratings: Inter 3-1 Chievo
By Max De Luca
Inter moved to within one point of Lazio in the race for the last Champions League spot thanks to a 3-1 win over Chievo on Sunday.
Antonio Cassano gave the home side the perfect start before they were pegged back by Marco Rigoni’s goal in the 21st minute. Andrea Ranocchia restored the Nerazzurri’s advantage moments later with a powerful header.
Diego Milito then capped off an impressive display with a goal five minutes into the second half to seal the deal for the Beneamata. Football.com’s Max De Luca rates the players on show at San Siro
Handanovic: 6 - Was done no favours by his central defenders and stood no chance for Rigoni’s goal. Had hardly anything to do in the second half as the Nerazzurri took the game to Chievo.
Zanetti: 7- The Inter captain won the corner that eventually led to Cassano’s opener with one of his trademark runs. Always seems to flourish in a right-back role and tonight was no different.
Ranocchia: 6 - Aerially dominant in Chievo’s penalty area but was caught ball watching more than once in his own box. Atoned for his role in Rigoni’s goal with a towering header to give Inter a 2-1 lead at the time.
Juan Jesus: 6 - Was caught ball watching just like his partner in defence for Chievo’s opener but held up in the second session.
Nagatomo: 6 - Did his job quietly and with minimal fuss. Pushed forward at will in the second half and was robbed by Puggioni with the goal at his mercy.
Cambiasso: 7 - The Argentine veteran was foiled by Puggioni in the 24th minute when his low drive seemed destined for the back of the net. Set up his compatriot Milito for Inter’s third of the evening to cap off a stellar display.
Kuzmanovic: 6 - Still trying to get his bearings since his move from Germany but didn’t look out of place by any means.
Gargano: 5.5 - The diminutive midfielder couldn’t buy a goal tonight as he missed a glorious chance in the 28th minute and then hit the post from a free kick later on in the first half.
Palacio: 6 - Came to life in the second half after a subdued first 45 minutes. Almost etched his name on the score sheet numerous times but just couldn’t beat Puggioni.
Milito: 7 - The Argentine’s presence upfront was a sight for sore eyes for the Nerazzurri faithful. Marked his return from a knee injury with an excellent strike that put the game out of the Flying Donkeys’ reach. A triumphant return for the Prince.
Cassano: 7.5 Simply sublime. Opened the scoring with a shot that somehow squeezed through Puggioni and was a danger whenever he had the ball at his feet. Terrorized the Chievo defence on numerous occasions. Easily the best player on the pitch tonight.
Alvarez: 6 - Came on for Milito and acquitted himself quite well, almost scoring in the 75th minute.
Stankovic: 5.5 - Returned after a long-injury layoff to a raucous ovation from the San Siro crowd.
Schelotto: NA - Five-minute cameo for January signing.
