A brace from Nicky Law has helped Motherwell keep hold of second spot in the Scottish Premier League after a 3-0 win over Dundee.

Motherwell struck another blow to Dundee's hopes of avoiding relegation with Michael Higdon's first-half header putting the visitors on track for their fourth win in five matches before Law's late double put the outcome beyond doubt.

After just seven minutes of the match at Dens Park, Dundee, Higdon headed home at the back post from Chris Humphrey's cross and Motherwell should have had more goals before half-time as they dominated the home side.

But the visitors had to wait until the 63rd minute for a second goal when Law got on the end of Keith Lasley's delivery.

The 25-year-old midfielder then made it 3-0 with a curling shot into the top corner 11 minutes from time.

The win keeps Motherwell three points ahead of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who won 2-1 away to Hibernian.

Inverness broke the deadlock in the 48th minute through Ross Draper but Hibernian equalised 11 minutes later when Leigh Griffiths notched his 19th goal of the Scottish Premier League season.

Andrew Shinnie scored the winner for Inverness in the 65th minute, ensuring his team keep the pressure on Motherwell.

In Aberdeen, the home team overcame Hearts 2-0 thanks to a brace from Niall McGinn, while Kilmarnock held on for a 1-0 victory away to Ross County after James Fowler's fourth-minute goal.
