SuperSport United have signed goalkeeper George Chigova on a three year contract to boost their goalkeeping department for 2012-15 season.
The 6ft 6 inch Zimbabwean shot-stopper will only join the Pretoria-based side in June after catching an eye of Cavin Johnson when he helped his country reach the semi-final of the 2014 African Nation Championship (CHAN) in South Africa in January.
SuperSport United CEO, Stanley Matthews, expressed his delightful for the signature of the 22-year old net-minder, saying it is important for the club to have a tough competition in every position.
“We are fortunate to have a great goalkeeping complement at the club in Ronwen Williams and Baolefa Pule, and with Rowen Fernandez likely to leave at the end of the season, it was important for us to have a fierce competition in every position-including the keepers,” said Matthews.
“I am certain that George (Chigova) will push Ronwen (Williams) and Boalefa (Pule) all the way and I am looking forward to seeing a record amount of clean sheet next season.
George Chigova, who plays his football with Zimbabwean powerhouse Dynamos, had offers from Europe and other top South African teams but chose to join SuperSport United, where he will face a tough competition with the also 22-year old Ronwen Williams promising to be the future Bafana Bafana goalkeeper due to his excellent goalkeeping skills.
