SuperSport welcome ESS
SuperSport United welcome Tunisian side, Etoile Sportive du Sahel to Lucas Moripe stadium in the 2nd leg of the second round tie of the CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday evening.
Matsatsantsa recorded a 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows in their previous competitive fixture in the Nedbank Cup and will hope for a similar showing in Saturday’s Confederation Cup match.
Thuso Phala’s goal in the second-half was enough for the Pretoria side to progress to the last 8 of the Nedbank Cup.
Cavin Johnson’s side endured a 1-0 defeat against Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the first leg at Stade Olympique de Sousse - as Alaya scored the only goal of the match to give the Tunisian outfit a slight advantage heading into the return leg.
SuperSport United will be boosted by the return of striker, Bradley Grobler from injury who is set to make his first start in CAF competition.
Etoile du Sahel coach, Roger Lemerre, will be keen to see his charges come out to South Africa and force a positive result. ESS has already prevented Matsatsantsa from scoring an away goal and will be keen to add that primarily on the night in an attempt to put the game beyond the home side's reach.
ESS who made it to the group stages of the same competition last season are currently fourth in the Tunisian Premier League table and have recorded four victories and a single draw in their last five league games.
The team that progresses will be pitted against teams that would have been omitted from the CAF Champions league in a Play-off round.
SuperSport United coach Cavin Johnson commented: "We are geared for this game because of how well we did in last Saturday. We now have a great opportunity to settle the score and accomplish something that most teams in Southern Africa have failed to do and that is to overcome a team from North Africa and progress to the stage.
"Sahel is a formidable side and football lovers will get to see that on Saturday. We have to be on our best on the night if we harbour any ambition of progressing to the next stage. They are well aware of what we can do and we have to ensure that we repeat the performance of the first leg where we dominated,” the former Platinum Stars mentor concluded.
