Time for Accolades: Kieran Gibbs is World Class
Arsene Wenger has done it again.
He has nurtured, educated, and developed another upper echelon footballing talent.
It's time to recognize that Kieran Gibbs is world class.
Following in the foots steps of Ashley Cole, and Gael Glichy, Kieran Gibbs has firmly established himself as one of the very best defenders in the Premier League and indeed the world.
His sprinter's pace, incredibly silky first-touch on the ball, coupled with a strong reading of the game and tactical discipline make him one Arsenal's most important players.
There are a select few full-backs in World Football who have the fitness levels to get forward deep into the heart of the opponents attacking-third, beat players, provide a telling cross, and track back and recover to maintain defensive responsibilities.
Gibbs has these qualities in abundance.
The media blathering about Alexis Sanchez playing so well for Arsenal that it might lead the Chilean to seek a Club with bigger ambition is nauseating sensationalism; but Wenger would best beware that if Gibss continues to stand-out as one of Arsenal's brightest performers he could soon be courted by some of Europe's elites looking to bolster there backline.
Over the summer, Gibbs did inherit the no. 3 shirt from Bacary Sagna, a clear indication of Wenger's faith and utmost confidence in the young Three Lion.
It is now time to make Gibbs one of Arsenal's highest paid defenders; offer a new wage-packet and restructured contarct to remind young Kieran of just how important he is to the Club. There's no reason the aging Per Mertesacker should be making more money than Gibbs. A bump in pay will go a long way to ensure Gibbs' maintains allegiance to the Gunners and, help him focus over the next few seasons, on honing his craft to become England's undisputed starting left-back.
If Gibbs stays injury free, and maintains his current high standard of play, with a little improvement on his delivery from wide areas, the sky is the limit for the former Wimbledon Academy man.
Leighton Baines beware.
