Top 5 Premier League Strikers
In the Barclays Premier League we have a wealth of striking options. Every team has a good striker, but is that striker of exceptional quality, and who will make the grade?
Many names get spouted each week about being the best in the league, but this isn't based off current form. This is acknowledging current form, but also taking the qualities they possess into account.
5. Robin van Persie
This season he hasn't looked at his best, with only 3 goals in 9 appearances, but we all know what he's capable of. He got himself a move to Manchester United from Arsenal 3 seasons ago, and in his first season he scored 26 goals in 38 league appearances, helping Manchester United win the Barclays Premier League. Although he had a dissapointing season last season, when he only managed to hit 12 goals in 21 appearances in Manchester United's worst season in Premier League history. The reason I picked him at number 5 as he seemed to have already hit his peak, and he doesn't look like he will be outscoring any of the other strikers in this list any time soon.
4. Diego Costa
As I said, this isn't taking just form into account. I picked Diego at number 4 as although he's had a brilliant start to his Chelsea career, scoring 9 goals in his opening 8 games, he hasn't done it consistently season after season. Last season he scored 27 goals in 35 league appearances, but does that out shine his 10 goals in 31 games 2 seasons ago? Although he's pacey and powerful, his lack of goalscoring form from previous seasons is the reason he's at number 4.
3. Radamel Falcao
This one was a hard decision that was thought long and hard about. I have decided to choose him as in the league, as on top form, there maybe isn't anybody better in the world. His last 10 months have been horrible, as he suffered an injury in January 2014 that kept him out for the World Cup in Brazil, and it doesn't look like he's fully recovered. Manchester United have gotten a goal out of him so far, and his overall performances aren't bad, he has missed a few key games through injury this season. He managed an amazing 70 goals in 90 games for Atletico Madrid, and 72 goals in 82 for Porto, surely that's worthy of number 3?
This may raise a few eyebrows, but in the second spot, I've chosen Wayne Rooney. He is a "complete striker." He can play virtually anywhere on the pitch, having taken up the left and right wings from time to time, and more recently playing in midfield vs Man City. Rooney has a very impressive goal scoring record, although being out shadowed by the likes of Ronaldo at Man Utd and getting a lot of unfair criticism, he's on track to being England & Man Utd's top goalscorers ever, not bad eh? Rooney has bagged 187 goals in the Premier League for United, putting him 3rd in the all time Premier League scorers ever!
1. Sergio Aguero
He's the leading goal scorer in the Premier League at the moment, and he looks unstoppable. Aguero has every quality you want in a striker and also a very, very good goalscorer. I put him first as although he hasn't been able to hit top form yet, he's on course to beating his record for most goals in one Premier League season. It has been unfortunate for Sergio, as he has been hitten with quite a few injuries, and has significantly less minutes than a few in this list, this gives him the upper hand on having the best minutes to goals ratio! He has scored an impressive 62 goals in 97 Premier League games, but not once picking up the golden boot!
This is my top five strikers and it was hard to order them. Who would be your top five?
