The Manchester United transfers rumors are heating up, and with the club in desperate need of high-quality defenders, rumors have surfaced that Mats Hummels may be Louis van Gaal's primary target.
The Borussia Dortmund star is gaining interest from plenty of teams, but according to Jamie Jackson of The Guardian, United is prepared to offer a whole lot of money for the experienced defender.
As for just how much the transfer fee would be, Jackson suggests that it could be a British transfer record, potentially breaking the current record of £32m Eliaquim Mangala.
The other clubs that could potentially be major players for Hummels' services:
"Arsène Wenger is another who is an admirer and United may also have to fend off Barcelona – Hummels has previously expressed a liking for the Catalan club."
While Arsenal and Barcelona could be serious contenders for landing Hummels, if United is willing to offer such an enormous amount of money, it may be hard for the defender to turn it down.
But while United's defensive woes have been well-documented, chief executive Ed Woodward has stated that the team is unlikely to bring in anyone during the January transfer window.
Getting a player like Hummels to sure up the defense may give United no choice.
