North Carolina midfielder Amber Brooks has signed with Bayern Munich, the club announced on its website on Friday.
The native of New Hope, Pa., was the captain of the UNC's title-winning team in 2012, scoring seven goals and nabbing six assists while leading the Tar Heels to a national title, and was named the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Year. She wrapped up her college career as team captain in 2012 and in 2011, where she boasted 17 goals and 19 assists, playing in a total of 93 matches at Chapel Hill.
Along with a standout career at UNC, Brooks has represented the U.S. at U17, U20 and U23 age groups, winning a silver medal with the U.S. at the 2008 U17 Women's World Cup.
She'll join a moderately successful league in Germany, which consists of 12 teams. Her new club currently sits in fourth place in the standings, and Brooks will have some American teammates around her: former Lehigh star Gina Lewandowski, Niki Cross (who played at UConn) and Sarah Hagen (who played for Milwaukee) are currently on Munich's roster.
