Manchester United have turned their attentions to Southampton winger Sadio Mane, after their intense interest in Chelsea-bound Pedro came to an abrupt halt on Wednesday.
The Red Devils looked poised to sign the 28-year-old after Sky Sports revealed that personal terms had been agreed between Pedro and Manchester United. However, it later reported that Manchester United were unwilling to meet the release clause of one of Barcelona's longest-serving players.
Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal said that the highly-rated wide midfielder was 'not needed' at the club, before launching a move for Southampton's Sadio Mane.
Southampton revealed the interest in their Senegal-born player, but refused to confirm that a bid had been submitted, despite various other sources reporting that the 13-time Premier League champions had lodged an opening offer.
The coastal team also remain adamant that Mane is not for sale, although Manchester United are set to test their resolve in the closing weeks of the transfer window.
