Uruguayan Clausura Round 10: Fenix continue to lead the table

On Saturday, two matches to tune into. 

Liverpool v Rentistas 

TIME: 15:00(EST)

Rentistas going for the Clausura title and securing a spot to qualify for the Libertadores. Liverpool will not be able to count on their treasure, Rodrigo Aguirre, who was sold mid-week to Udiense(Italy) and as he is on his way back. He will finish the tournament with Liverpool then depart to Italy. Liverpool will seek another triumph after defeating Nacional 1-0.

Sud America with an advantage as Penarol had a full week of football. On Friday, Penarol played against Miramar for the Clausura and won 2-0. On Sunday, a friendly against Internacional to inaugurate a World Cup stadium, Beira-Rio. Then on Thursday, played the remaining match of the Libertadores against Deportivo Anzoategui.

Fenix v Danubio

Fenix, solo leader of the Clausura table with 18 points, will play at home against Danubio, which is second annual table below River Plate. The albivioletas seek a foothold in the first place, while Danubio will try to get three fundamental points for defining the Uruguayan Championship.

The locals are undoubtedly one of the great surprises of the tournament; have not come down from the first position since the first fixture, which resulted a win over El Tanque Sisley in Florida. Managed by Juan Tejera, Fenix come into the match from visiting Juventud.

Juventud have demonstrated improvement over the last fixtures and River has to cautious. River is second place in the Clausura table with 17 points while Fenix leads the table with 18 points. Following River in the Clausura table is Penarol with 17 points. River can’t risk to lose any points with only five more fixtures remaining and the race for the Clausura title being so tight.

On Wednesday, Defensor played against Universidad de Chile for the Libertadores, match ended 1-1. The tied was enough for Defensor to pass onto the quarterfinals, which Defensor will face The Strongest (Bolivia). Defensor is focused in the Libertadores and will analyze their players on Saturday to make the final decision on the lineup. Nacional as well had a match during the week and defeated Independiente Santa Fe 3-2. As for Nacional lineup, there are a lot of questions and possibilities. Ignacio Gonzalez has recovered and there is a possibility he can be in the starting line as well with Sebastian Coates.
