Vela blames poor finishing for Leverkusen loss
Oct 03, 2013 4:02 PM GMT
Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela has put Wednesday's defeat to Bayer Leverkusen down to an inability to take their chances.
The Mexico international equalised Simon Rolfes' opener six minutes into the second half at the BayArena, but the Liga side could not hold out as Jens Hegeler curled a sumptuous free-kick home in injury-time to snatch a win for the hosts.
Sociedad are now without a point from their opening two games in their first UEFA Champions League campaign for nine season and face consecutive meetings with Premier League champions Manchester United next.
"The team did well in the second half, but we conceded a goal in the last minute and that makes it difficult for us," former Arsenal man Vela said.
"We are a little bit disappointed because we think we deserved at least a point.
"We played well, created good opportunities but missed them in the end. With a very small mistake we lost the game and were very disappointed.
"They take the three points and we have to congratulate them on that. We have to continue to fight and try to change the dynamics.
"It is now a difficult situation for us, we have zero points and go to Old Trafford next.
"That will be a very difficult game but we have to fight and try to give the best in every game for the team and the fans. They travel so far to be with us."
