Who should wear the armband?
By Jon Szekeres
By now, you've all probably heard the devastating news. Jay Demerit will miss, quite possibly, the entire MLS season after rupturing his Achilles tendon. Not only do the 'Caps lose arguably their best defender, their passionate leader and team spokesman, but now the search for a replacement Captain has come to the forefront. It's not like last season, when Barry Robson wore the band after Demerit missed two matches with a concussion; no, this injury carries a lengthy recovery time. Whomever is given the honor will have to do so for a very long time. Hey, considering Demerit's age of 33, that this is the final year of his 3 year contract, and the severity of the injury, he may never lace his boots up for the 'Caps again. (Long shot, but still possible)
With that in mind, who should don the armband in his absence? Once again, whoever does might become the 'Caps permanent Captain, so it's not a question that can be easily disposed of. With that in mind, lets take a look at the candidates.
